3 April 1943 - 20 July 2010

Can you fix this? It's a broken heart.
It was fine, but it just fell apart.
It was mine, but now I give it to you,
Cause you can fix it, you know what to do.

Let your love cover me,
Like a pair of angel wings,
You are my family,
You are my family.

~ Pierce Pettis, Family

“Exploration is in our nature. We began as wanderers, and we are wanderers still. We have lingered long enough on the shores of the cosmic ocean. We are ready at last to set sail for the stars.” ~ Carl Sagan

In memory of my Dad
An Explorer's View of Life

  1. Heather, I know your heart is broken and I am so sorry for that, no one can ever replace your dad, no one can ever take his place but you can fill the void with loving and helping others. Your world has changed but your dad will always be a part of you....the love he gave you can never be taken away. Please take care of yourself and your family, this is a time for all to come together to love and support each other.......sending you big hugs.......:-)

  2. ~Beautiful~ Heather, Barry would Love that <3
Remember You are part of Him and He is part of You, Always, and never far~away... He was and is a most Loved man to be sure... My Heartfelt condolences x

  3. What a beautiful tribute to your father!
He will be for ever in my prayers as well as his so wonderful family.
    Rest in peace, Barry!
    All my love.

  4. We encounter many people who are new to us, during our lives. Sometimes, a relationship blossoms and lasts. Your dad had a way of making people feel as though he'd always been a friend. Such a warm and unassuming character.

My thoughts are with you and yours at this difficult time. Take care.

  5. A fine writer and a courageous man! Many will miss him. I will.

  6. Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts. I am so floored by finding so many heartfelt comments over on my Dad's blog and being able to click through to memorials on so many other blogs. It's really beautiful.

  7. Dear Heather I was reminiscing through your Dad's blog as FSO is dedicated to him and we are to photograph things that Barry would like. I have only known him for a little over a year, but like everyone else was immediately drawn to his intelligence, humor, dignity and gentlemanliness as I read and watched the videos he made. This cyberspace world of community is so amazing. It will be hard to count the lives he has touched in this medium. He mentioned your blog and I respect your desire not to put it out there for everyone, but found this and so want to convey my feelings to you and family. I know he will rest in peace. Blessings

  8. Heather, my heart reaches out to you. Barry was such a special person, I consider myself honoured to have had him in my life. We were diagnosed at the same time. You have lost your dad and I am sure he is more than that to you. Barry was unique and he will live on forever in all those who knew him. xxx
